Black-Owned Brands That You Should Try

Updated: Mar 3, 2021

Although it almost the last day of Black History Month, you can still support these brands all year round. I wanted to feature a few black-owned brands that I tried and loved. I am so glad that other races and even myself can learn about Black history, especially during this month.

Saheef Creations

Karen Swint started Saheef Creation in Richmond, Texas. Mrs. Swint makes headwraps, headbands, face masks, bonnets, and scrub caps. Mrs. Swint personally designs and sews each item individually. She made me this beautiful headband and bonnet (not pictured). I love this print on the headband. It reminds me of the African wax-prints that is worn in many African cultures. She offers many prints for her products. Her products are sold on Etsy. I highly recommend you supporting her as a small business

Carol's Daughter | Black-Owned Brands That You Should Try

Carol's Daughter

Lisa Price found Carol’s Daughter in 1993 in Brooklyn, New York. I love that the company’s products is made with love for all textures. The beauty products have no sulfates, no parabens, no petroleum, and many other safe products. When I first cut my hair naturally in 2018, it was the first brand I tried. The first item I tried Black Vanilla Moisture and Shine Sulfate-Free Shampoo. Now I use the Hair Milk Nourishing and Conditioning Curl Defining Butter; it’s moisturizing my hair. I highly recommend trying their brand.

Eden Body Works

Eden Body Works

Jasmine Lawrence launched EDEN BodyWorks back in 2004 in Atlanta, Georgia. I can’t believe she found it at age 13. Jasmine’s needed a natural hair care solution after a disappointment with harsh chemical products. I also love Ms. Lawrence’s message “inspired by nature’s finest ingredients, the products EDEN offers compliment our commitment to encouraging women to live happier, healthier lives.” The company distributes all-natural hair and body care products around the world. All the products are made without harsh sulfates, parabens, silicones, mineral oils (petroleum), or dyes. I love that EDEN is cruelty-free. The first product tried this brand with mini Almond Marshmallow Hydration Serum. The Hydration Serum changed my hair because it helped with locking hydration. Most of the Almond Marshmallow set is good.

The Lip Bar

The Lip Bar

The Lip Bar was launched by Melissa Butler in 2012 while working on Wall Street because of the lack of diversity in the beauty industry. She began making the products from her kitchen with natural ingredients. It is cool that Mrs. Butler was on Shark Tank. Although she did not get the deal, she continued to work on her brand. Shark Tank’s exposure grew her audience. Now, the brand is sold at Target stores. I am wearing the vegan matte liquid lipstick in the picture. I love this bright purple lip color on me. The color gives a pop of color to my outfit.

I highly recommend trying these brands. It is great to support black-owned and small businesses. I am so grateful that I have such easy access to these products. You can also shop these items. I hope you enjoyed this post; make sure you leave a comment and share!
